Mapping font encodings

To understand mapping font encodings, it's probably best to start with what font encodings are not. Font encodings do not give you control over the font usage in the output. (If you want to use a particular font, you need to set that up in the paragraph mappings, among other things. See the User's Guide for more information.)

So, what's font encoding all about? It lets you control how the character sets are translated into different output formats. For a standard font (such as Arial or Helvetica) and symbol fonts (such as Symbol), use Latin1. If you're using the International Edition of WebWorks Publisher Standard Edition, use the font character mapping that corresponds to the language of the FrameMaker source document, such as Japanese. If your document contains a mix of languages, use Unicode.

Generally, WebWorks Publisher Standard Edition does a good job of automapping your font encodings. But if you need to change them, here's how:

1. Click the FrameMaker and Generated Files folder. (If you want to set a custom mapping for a single file, click that file instead.)
2. Select Project » Properties, or right-click and select Properties from the pop-up menu.

The Properties window is displayed. By default, the mappings for paragraph tags are shown.

3. Click the Font subtab at the bottom of the window to display the table mappings.

The list on the left shows the fonts in your FrameMaker files. The list on the right shows the WebWorks Publisher Standard Edition character mapping styles.

4. To change a mapping, click the FrameMaker font that you want to change. Then, select the WebWorks Publisher Standard Edition style you want from the drop-down list at the bottom of the dialog box.
5. When you're finished, click OK to save the mappings and close the Properties window.
